Starting last July 30, audiences were invited to face their deepest fears as GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs launched “P77,” a horror film designed to keep viewers glued to their seats until the very end. This movie took them on a journey into the unsettling world of the mind, where reality blurs with nightmares.

A New Take on Fear

“P77” was the latest project from the talented creators behind the winners “Firefly,” “Green Bones,” and the blockbuster hit “Mallari.” Known for crafting stories that push boundaries, these filmmakers now presented a film that surprised and challenged viewers’ perceptions of fear.

Leading the cast was Kapuso Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, taking on her first-ever leading role in a horror film. Fans could expect a performance that would surprise many and leave a lasting impression. Barbie shared her perspective on what made “P77” special: “Napaka-grounded ng story namin – it revolves around family. It will also delicately delve into PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Aside from the jumpscare, this is also an awareness para mas lumawak ang ating intindi sa mga taong may PTSD.”

A Strong Ensemble

Barbie was supported by an impressive cast that added depth to the story. Highlighted among them were Euwenn Mikaell, a talented young actor who gained praise as a child star in “Firefly,” and veteran actors such as Jackielou Blanco, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Gina Pareño, Rosanna Roces, Chrome Cosio, and JC Alcantara. Their collective experience brought weight to the film’s chilling narrative.

The Story Unfolds

“P77” centered on Luna (played by Barbie), a cruise ship chambermaid who faced a difficult choice: she had to leave her job to care for her ailing brother (Euwenn). Meanwhile, she learned that her mother (Rosanna) had gone missing, and her sibling’s health continued to decline. Left with few options, the siblings secretly entered an empty condo unit, only to discover that Penthouse 77 was far from ordinary.

The film explored themes of fear rooted in the familiar, mixing personal struggles with supernatural elements, creating an experience that was both suspenseful and meaningful.

A Creative Team Committed to Excellence

The story was based on a haunting narrative by “Green Bones” creators Anj Atienza and Kristian Julao, with a screenplay written by Enrico Santos, a highly regarded figure known for his compelling storytelling. Under the direction of Derick Cabrido, a rising star in horror filmmaking credited for successful thrillers like “Mallari” (2023), the film promised a fresh and intense viewing experience.

A Legacy of Horror Films

GMA Pictures had a proud history of producing noteworthy horror movies, including “The Road,” “Ouija,” “Basement,” and “Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles.” With “P77,” the studio continued its tradition of delivering movies that challenged and entertained viewers, creating moments that would stay with them long after the credits rolled.

The film, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, is NOW SHOWING.
