In a world where connectivity has become so vital in our daily lives, it is something very interesting to explore. This year, Kapamilya actor and Star Magic artist Gerald Anderson embraces both acting and producing roles in a project that dives deep into the significance of human connection in the digital age.

As one of the busiest years in his two-decade career approaches its end, Anderson has wrapped up filming for the television series Sins of the Father and started an exciting new journey. On December 1, he proudly launched Rekonek, his entry into the Metro Manila Film Festival, marking his debut as a film producer.
Reflecting on his motivation for the film, Anderson said, “Why did I think of this? Because I believe in the project. What matters most to me is the story. You can have a wonderful cast, but if the story isn’t good or clear, it just won’t work. So that’s my top priority.” He added, “Christmas is my favorite season. We haven’t had a Christmas movie in the festival for a long time, and this year, Rekonek is the sole Christmas film. I know that Filipinos miss the Christmas spirit in their cinema. I also see this project as a learning experience for future productions.”

Taking on dual roles as an actor and producer, Anderson mentioned the lessons he is gathering along the way. He has been deeply involved in the entire filmmaking process, from logistics to coordinating the shooting schedule. “The cast is truly outstanding. This is my first venture as a producer, so beyond just acting, it has been an incredible learning experience. We only recently reunited after a long time, and I’ve been managing everything behind the scenes, from artist schedules to promotional activities. Though it was stressful, I’m always ready for a challenge. After 20 years in the industry, I am constantly looking for new experiences.”
Anderson’s excitement continues as he discusses the film’s thematic depth. “The audience will experience a wide range of emotions from this movie. It’s a very relevant story about what would happen if we lost internet connectivity ten days before Christmas. Today, we all recognize how essential the internet has become in our lives.”

During a recent press conference, he candidly shared the various obstacles he and the production team faced during the film’s development. “We encountered numerous challenges, including finances, scheduling with the cast, and the shooting itself, as well as the MMFF selections. From 50 entries, only eight were chosen to compete. Being selected in the top four was a significant breakthrough for us. When we received the announcement, we were motivated to move forward with full force.”
In this ensemble film, Anderson, alongside his talented co-stars, navigates the theme of living without the internet in a contemporary setting just before Christmas. Working closely with actress Charlie Dizon, who plays his love interest in a couple’s tumultuous relationship, Anderson elaborated, “The story presents different perspectives. It’s one complete narrative told through various points of view. Charlie and I are featured together prominently. Although we worked together previously in A Soldier’s Heart, we had a different dynamic there. This time, despite not having collaborated extensively before, I am eager to explore our characters’ journey.”
Be sure to catch Gerald Anderson in the much-anticipated MMFF entry Rekonek, which hits theaters across the nation on December 25. The film brings together an impressive cast, including Carmina Villarroel, Bela Padilla, Andrea Brillantes, Zoren Legaspi, Cassy Legaspi, Mavy Legaspi, and Gloria Diaz, under the direction of Jade Castro and produced by Reality MM Studios and The Th3rd Floor Studios.
