Lisik Origin Point, a zombie thriller, is about to unleash its horrors on Philippine cinemas. But the story behind the film’s creation is as compelling as the movie itself, a tale of risk, resilience, and a shared passion for storytelling.

P10M-peso risk
Dominjc Orjalo, the film’s executive producer, wears his passion on his sleeve. “I am passionate about films,” he declared. That passion led him to take a significant gamble, especially considering the precarious time. “I spent almost 10 million,” Orjalo revealed, explaining the challenges of bringing “Lisik Origin Point” to life. The production faced numerous hurdles, including a revolving door of directors. “Because, it started with the first director, second director, third director, until the fourth director,” Orjalo recounted. The project’s journey to its final form was fraught with uncertainty. But then, Orjalo met John Renz Cahilig. “Our visions and proposed executions aligned,” he said, marking a turning point in the film’s trajectory.

School turned into nightmare
Director John Renz Cahilig offered a glimpse into the film’s chilling narrative. “The story is about a group of students whose lives were disrupted by an outbreak,” he explained. The familiar setting of a school transforms into a battleground for survival as a mysterious infection spreads, turning classmates into monstrous creatures. “Masusubukan ang resilience ng students,” Cahilig added, highlighting the film’s focus on the students’ struggle against overwhelming odds.
Appealing to the youth
Orjalo believes the film’s zombie theme will resonate with younger audiences. “Mga millennials ay nasa loob ng sinehan, pag natatakot sila, pwede naman yumakap sila, gustung-gusto ng kabataan ang mga extreme, diba?” he observed, suggesting that the thrill and suspense of the film will provide an exciting cinematic experience. He understands the appeal of extreme themes for young moviegoers.

Of fresh faces and seasoned talent
Lisik Origin Point features a mix of up-and-coming actors and established talent. Starring Nika De Guzman, Grace Rosas Tayo, Jeremiah Allera, and Rosemarie Smith, with the special participation of Ramon Christopher, the film promises a blend of youthful energy and seasoned performance.

Not a ripoff
The film’s teaser has drawn comparisons to the popular Korean series “All of Us Are Dead.” However, director and writer John Renz Cahilig is quick to clarify. His film, he insisted, is an original story, not a mere imitation.
A platform for students
Beyond his passion for filmmaking, Orjalo is also driven by a desire to support young talent. As a school owner, he declared being passionate about giving his students the chance to showcase their acting skills and open doors to exciting opportunities for them. Lisik Origin Point serves as a platform for students to demonstrate their abilities and potentially launch their careers in the entertainment industry.
Produced by Domniel International Films Production, Lisik Origin Point also stars Jossah Mae Sison, Rain Mirasol, Joshua Cantuba, and Revers Quilario. The film opens in theaters on February 19.
