This holiday season, as Filipino shoppers gear up for gift-giving and shopping sprees, a quiet but crucial revolution is taking place behind the scenes. This one promises to safeguard consumers and preserve the integrity of luxury brands. Entrupy, a leader in data-driven authentication of luxury goods, is now gaining more customers in Southeast Asia and specifically in the Philippines, the second-highest user base in the region.

In a recent exclusive luncheon held at the Manila House Private Club in Bonifacio Global City, Entrupy took time to catch up with a few media practitioners and key industry players in the luxury goods scene like Purse Maison, Doctor Leather, and the Freya Collective. This intimate gathering focused the company’s mission — to build trust across the global supply chain by using cutting-edge AI technology that guarantees 99.86% accuracy in authenticating luxury items.

What is Entrupy?
Founded with a vision to battle counterfeits and scams, Entrupy is at the forefront of creating a safer, more transparent marketplace for luxury goods. The mission is to fight the US$1 trillion global counterfeit industry, a shadow economy that not only illegally steals billions from brands but also exposes consumers to health risks from toxic chemicals and supports illegal activities like drug trafficking and human exploitation.

The real victims are the consumers buying counterfeited items. In most cases, they think they got a deal but they don’t know the real cost of buying one.
— Vidyuth Srinivasan, CEO & Co-Founder, Entrupy
CEO and Co-Founder Vidyuth Srinivasan explained, “Our goal was always to add trust, become a standard. Every time someone uses the service, they’re basically adding trust. And every time someone checks a certificate, they’re absorbing that trust. That’s ultimately the future of a trustworthy industry.” During the interview, he mentioned, “We always start with doubts. That’s the process of how you build something, right? You start with doubts and keep eliminating them.”

Building trust in the Philippines
The Philippines has emerged as an important and actibe player in Entrupy’s regional expansion, with data revealing that it’s the second-largest country using the service in Southeast Asia. Local luxury brands such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci are the most authenticated. In the Philippines, the top five luxury brands most authenticated are Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, and Hermes. Conversely, the most faked bags are Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Goyard, and Dior.
Counterfeit activity remains alarmingly rampant, especially on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, with many transactions shifting to private messages, making scams harder to detect. This rise in counterfeit scams is especially concerning during the Christmas season, when many consumers buy from resellers.

Entrupy’s success story here isn’t just about numbers. Aila Amoyo-Reyes, APAC Regional Sales Manager, emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance. She explained, “Now that we’re in the ber months, people are shopping for Christmas gifts from resellers. Entrupy-verified businesses are legit, but many online resellers are scamming. We want to encourage everyone to be cautious.”

Why authenticity matters
Counterfeit goods aren’t just fake, many contain hazardous substances like lead, arsenic, and cadmium, posing real health risks to consumers and the environment. Globally, counterfeit activity has escalated into a $464 billion industry, rivaling the GDP of countries like Austria or Belgium. The risks are real, especially with counterfeit luxury bags and accessories.

According to data, the brands with the highest elevated risk of fakes include Loewe, Goyard, Celine, Chloe, and MCM. Additionally, brands like Prada and Gucci are most frequently faked worldwide, with Louis Vuitton topping the list of most authenticated brands, comprising 32.8% of all verified items globally, followed by Gucci at 13.6%, and Chanel at 13.4%.
The power of technology
Entrupy’s sophisticated AI technology, trained on millions of microscopic images, detects fakes with impressive precision and boasts a 99.86% accuracy rate, backed by a financial guarantee. The Philippines, in particular, has a big second-hand luxury market with an active Entrupy user base. Currently, 8.4% of nearly US$1.4 billion worth of goods authenticated in the region were identified as fake. The most common counterfeit brands globally include Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, and Saint Laurent, and the most faked materials are “Other” at 21.3%, Monogram Canvas at 9.9%, Nylon at 8.1%, Leather at 7%, and Calfskin at 6.7%.

Srinivasan added, “Our customers are growing, seeing how much their businesses expand with us. It’s inspiring to witness how the second-hand market is thriving, even amid distrust and economic uncertainties.” He highlighted the importance of collective effort. “What they really want to know is: is this real or not? Our mission is to make that answer clear, simple, and trustworthy.”
Entrupy’s technology and commitment are changing the game in terms of luxury authentication, making it easier for consumers to make informed, responsible choices.
Collective responsibility
This Christmas, everyone is urged to play a part in protecting Filipino consumers and promoting responsible buying. Supporting businesses that prioritize authenticity like those associated with Entrupy-verified ensures that shoppers receive genuine products. Always ask for third-party authentication certificates, and take advantage of Entrupy’s verified online certificates, which can be easily checked for authenticity.
As Amoyo-Reyes emphasized, “With the rise of social media transactions, especially on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, consumers need to be extra cautious.”

Safer shopping in the future
Counterfeiting and scams may be growing challenges, but thanks to technological advances and collective efforts, the industry is becoming more trustworthy. Entrupy’s work is just the beginning of a movement toward safer, more transparent marketplaces.
Vidyuth Srinivasan, at one point, communicated, “Every time someone checks a certificate, they’re not just protecting themselves, they’re contributing to a more trustworthy industry.”

As Filipino shoppers embrace the season of giving, the message is clear — choose authenticity, verify your sources, and support brands that put integrity at their core. By doing so, we help build a safer, healthier marketplace with a single designer bag, shirt, or pair of shoes purchased from a legitimate source.
